Linda Catlin Smith: Dirt Road | 22 August

Violinist Jellantsje de Vries and percussionist Christian Smith present Linda Catlin Smith's Dirt Road  at Moderne Muziek Nijmegen.

Canadian composer Linda Catlin Smith (1957) writes works – inspired by Morton Feldman, among others – with the transcendent, meditative quality of minimal music, but without the melodic or rhythmic repetitions that are typical of minimalism. Dirt Road is a one-hour work for violin and percussion; spiritual, dreamy and mysterious, time itself seems to vanish into the background. Smith: “I chose violin and percussion because it is one of the most challenging combinations I could think of.”
